What can I expect from Baloch Psychology?

I assure you of complete confidentiality, ethical practice and utmost discretion

Specialist Assessment

A typical assessment takes between 1-2 sessions. The aim of an assessment is to gather an in depth understanding of your history and current difficulties. This provides an opportunity to explore what brought you to therapy, and most importantly, to understand together why problems are persisting and keeping you feeling stuck. I will ask about your past therapy experiences to identify any areas that may not have been addressed or where you have not experienced benefits. I may also ask you to complete some specialised questionnaires to help us reach a shared understanding of your difficulties. Each individual’s goals for therapy are unique and we will formulate a plan best suited for you.

Trust and Goals

Once we determine that Baloch Psychology is the appropriate service for you, our journey starts with building trust and identifying a focal point. I use a relational framework, which means I focus on establishing a comfortable and supportive space where you can freely express and explore your thoughts and feelings. Once we have established goals, we will develop a formulation, this is normally a visual diagram that identifies what might be keeping you feeling stuck. It includes theoretical knowledge combined with your experiences. We then have weekly sessions to work towards your goals, aiming to create positive changes in your life.

How many sessions are needed?

The duration of therapy depends on your difficulties and goals. National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines offer suggestions on the number of sessions for particular issues. Typically, we meet weekly, and as progress is maintained, sessions can become less frequent. Every six weeks, we will have a check-in to assess how things are going and discuss the next steps in your treatment plan.

Ending

We will routinely have open discussions about the progress you have made and together, we will determine an end date. The goal is to equip you with strategies to prevent setbacks and effectively cope with any challenges that may arise after therapy. Successful therapy makes me redundant. It enables you to become your own therapist, quite independent of me! Think of this as your new beginning.
